In a development that will no doubt raise questions and the ire of already hamstrung parents, Gweru’s District Schools Inspector has ordered all schools to conduct a civics day to fundraise for the upcoming Independence day Celebrations set for Nembudziya, Gokwe.
In a circular attributed to the Gweru District DSI one Mahlokozera , schools in the district were directed to hold civics day to fundraise for the purchase of regalia, food and fuel for about 205 students, 20 teachers and 138 heads who will represent the district at the national celebrations in Gokwe.
“The above subject refersThe District is requesting all schools to conduct a once off civics in order to purchase regalia, food and fuel including unforseen costs for the Nembudziya Independence Celebrations to be conducted on the 18th of April 2025,” read the memo.
“The Heads are expected to deposit the civics money in the BSPZ account. The civic money must not exceed 15 per child, your co-operation will be appreciated.”
Zimbabwe will be celebrating 45 years of independence this year as the country struggles with an unstable economic environment that has seen the formal sector struggling and political turmoil sparked by the brazen attack on its President by the now expelled ruling party Central Committee Blessed Geza.
