Binga is an intriguing area in Matebeleland North province of Zimbabwe. What you might not know about Zimbabwe’s Binga is that the forefathers from used to perform rainfall ritual ceremonies at the famous Hot Springs.

It’s believed that a man named “Maalila” (Munsaka/Ndlovu being his totem) would enter the boiling point of the water in the hot springs and communicate with spirit mediums.

Upon emerging from beneath the hot waters, he would bring forth fresh produce such as maize, pumpkins, cucumbers, and other farm products.

As they walked back home, 25 kilometers away from the springs, heavy rain would pour down, accompanying them on foot. The sounds of praising songs could be heard behind the crowd, with cheering and whistling, as the medium celebrated the received rainfall. The fresh crops were a sign of a bountiful harvest to come.
