Zimbabwe is stepping up efforts to end Tuberculosis (TB) by 2030, with health experts calling for increased funding to achieve the target.

Speaking during the closing day of the National TB Conference at the Mendel Training Center in Harare, Dr. Owen Mugurungi, Director of HIV/AIDS and TB Programmes in Zimbabwe, emphasized that funding is crucial for the country’s 2030 goal.

“We should totally eradicate TB by 2030, and it can only be achieved when our programmes are fully funded,” said Dr. Mugurungi.

The Chairperson of the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Health and Childcare, Honourable Fortune Daniel Molekele, urged the public to advocate more strongly for TB funding.

“I have never seen anyone come to raise their voice to parliamentarians on the issue of TB, but I am seeing a lot of people here showing that they are concerned about it,” he said.

Honourable Molekele said he is willing to assist with any TB-related issues to help achieve the 2030 target.

“My door will always be open if you need assistance with various research projects and other engagements. I will be available whenever I am in Harare,” said the legislator.

The prestigious three-day event brought together policymakers, service delivery partners, stakeholders, TB survivors, and academics to discuss critical advancements in TB research and management.

The conference served as a platform to disseminate research findings, foster meaningful dialogue, and strengthen collaborations with key stakeholders committed to ending TB by 2030. The indaba ran under the theme “From Commitment to Action: Innovation, Sustainable Financing and Person-Centered Care to End TB.”
