Newly promoted Pacific Storm Eastern Division Soccer League club Bikita Chida Athletic Club has joined the government’s call in fighting drug and substance abuse in the rural communities of Zaka and Bikita through football.

Bikita Minerals’ Lithium stadium this weekend turned into the theatre of dreams when young promising players converged for soccer trials to compete in the Pacific Storm Eastern Region Soccer League.

Speaking during the occasion, Club President Honest Chida said he was thrilled to see a number of young talented players showing their interest in joining his club for 2026-27 season. He said through his STAR-DELTA ELECTRIX, the company which is the principal sponsor of the club is committed in fighting drug and substance abuse in Zaka and Bikita especially young people.

“Everyone is aware that drug and substance abuse is affecting our country and young people are most affected ones and our target is clear,we want to keep away from drugs,” said Chida.

STAR-DELTA ELECTRIX boss said the club’s main target is to avoid relegation since they will be competing with seasoned clubs like Masvingo United,Wangu Mazodze,Bikita Minerals,Renco Mine to mention just a few.
“We have invited high profile coaches like George Jojo and Oscar Dzikamai Muvhimi to help us in achieving our 2030 vision which is playing in the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League but as we are still building our team, top four finish is enough for for us”,he added.

Chief Marozva who was supposed to be the guest of owner but later failed to attend the event due to other commitments said he was happy of having two teams in his area of jurisdiction competing in the same league and he hopes these will go a long way in stemming the many social vices in his community such as drug and substance abuse, criminal activities, teenage pregnancies.

He added that everyone in the community especially young people will no longer be idle as they will find something to do in football to earn a living and develop talent. He thanked STAR-DELTA ELECTRIX and its owner Mr Honest CHIDA for joining other corporates and business people in supporting football development in his community as well as the country.
