Kambuzuma based children organisation St.Bright, has pledged to fight drug and substance abuse among children through income generating projects and establishing a drug rehabilitation centre.
Speaking during its inception meeting held in Harare on Friday St. Bright Children’s Organisation director Mr Peswerai Mukahiwa said the organisation is complementing government efforts in fighting drug and substance abuse among vulnerable children.
“The scourge of drug addiction permeates every corner of our communities, leaving a trail of devastation in its wake.He also said children who are into drugs are causing a lot of problems to their families and it is now an area where everyone is concerned even the government doing a lot to fight drug abuse.
“We want our children to say no to drugs,and keep the focus on income generating projects,”said Mukahiwa.
Mr Mukahiwa said vulnerable children need to be supported so that they will not involved in drug abuse.A lot of crimes are being committed in our communities because of drugs so nurturing children is key in fight those situations and St.Bright is trying to become a leading children welfare organisation through its partners and various stakeholders.
The organisation is currently providing guidance and counselling services to vulnerable children in the society and fourteen vulnerable children are living at the center with of their school fees being paid by the organisation.The children are into poultry farming at a small scale and the organisation is still lacking the capacity due to financial challenges and stakeholders and partners are most welcome so that the organisation’s dream of building the bright future generations of vulnerable children will come true.
The event was attended by members of the community,Local authorities,National AIDS Council,Zimbabwe National Network of TB Survivors,Mashambanzou Care Trust.
